Ted runs on your Mac. There is no Cortex Labs server in between and no telemetry.
What stays on your Mac
- Conversations, projects, skills, memory and channel settings, in
~/Library/Application Support/ted.cortex/. - Secrets, like your Anthropic API key, in the macOS Keychain.
- Voice messages are transcribed on your Mac.
- The daemon only listens on your own machine.
What goes out
- To Anthropic: what Ted thinks about (your messages, the context he gathers, tool results) goes to Claude, through the
claudeCLI on your subscription or through your API key. See The brain. - To the services you connect: WhatsApp, your e-mail providers, Microsoft Teams, Telegram and Slack, to read and send messages.
- For the news: the sources and repositories Robin follows, and parcel carriers when you track something.
- Updates: checks for new versions.
Sending as you
Ted reads your channels but never answers on his own, with one exception you turn on yourself: a WhatsApp watch on a specific contact. Everything else he sends from your number or your e-mail is something you asked for.
When Ted learns how you write, he reads only the messages you sent, on your Mac. The summary of your style is written by the AI you use with Ted. Relearn or forget it any time in Settings › Channels.
Getting rid of things
Ask Ted to forget something, or use Settings › Demolition to clear conversations or wipe his memory, after taking a copy of the plans. See Settings.
